Description
In 1959 a Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz was the epitome of an American luxury cabriolet. The elegant coachwork with its infinite amount of chrome embellishments, its exorbitant fins and the rocket style rear lights definitely provided a most dramatic visual impact. Equipped with a 350 SAE hp 6.4 litre V8, automatic gearbox, electro-hydraulically operated soft top, electric window lifts, a high-quality leather interior and pneumatic suspension, the big flamboyant cabriolet was far from cheap and only 1’320 examples could be sold. The car offered has been in Switzerland for many years. In December 1994 it was acquired as a restoration project by the vendor and completely restored over the following two years. The coachwork was repainted in its original colour “Olympic White”, and the interior was restored using original spec red leather. The engine was overhauled and the troublesome 3-carburettor-system was modified with only the middle carburettor now left operating. The chassis, gearbox and the complex suspension system were revised at the same time. Since its completion the Eldorado Biarritz was used for pleasant summer outings or participation at US-car meetings. Recently the rubber-spheres in the suspension - which had gone brittle with age - were replaced and the convertible is now in perfect operational shape. This very rare Cadillac stems from long term ownership, is in very good condition and will be handed over with the last Veteran MOT completed in November 2023.
