THE PALMEN BARNFIND COLLECTION BY GALLERY AALDERING - AUCTIONED BY CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS
— View the entire auction on www.classiccar-auctions.com —
The sedan offered here is a Buick Special Series 40. The styling of the Buick Special Series 40 was adapted before 1937 with several striking changes, especially at the front. The 1936 Series 40 had a single grille with vertical bars; the 1937 model had horizontal bars and a center divider. The middle part of the grille was sprayed in the color of the body. The fenders were redesigned with square ends. Although not very visible, the height was lowered by almost 2 inches, while the interior remained almost the same because the floors were also lowered. There were eight body styles to choose from, including the convertible Phaeton, Sport Coupé, Business Coupé and Convertible Coupé. There was also a two-door and four-door sedan with an optional trunk. The most popular body style of the Series 40 - also Buick's most popular vehicle for 1937 - was the four-door Touring Sedan with trunk. The price for this vehicle was $1020. It competed with the Packard 120C, the Oldsmobile L-37, and the Pontiac Deluxe Series 26. The Series 40 was powered by an eight-cylinder line engine with head valves that produced 100 horsepower. It had a three-speed sliding gear transmission with floor shift controls and a single dry plate clutch and cardan joints. The car ran on pressed steel wheels and was braked by four-wheel hydraulic drums. Options included a heater, dual mounted tires, white sidewall tires, and a grille bar. For an additional cost, a dashboard mounted radio with a built-in speaker could be added. Mechanical improvements to the 1937 Series 40 included a new oil pump and an improved upper valve mechanism that was much quieter than the previous version. The intake valves were redesigned and the cooling system was improved. Today it is a unique classic sedan that is not often available.
The cars on offer are part of a static collection that has been accumulated over the last 40 years. They are mainly in an unrestored, original but dusty condition. We have not tried to start any of the cars. We have been informed that the engines have been turned, on a regular basis, but the exact condition of the cars and the engines is unknown to us.
You can inspect the cars on the viewing days for which you have to make a reservation through our ticketshop - www.eventix.shop/xmxuc9fs.
