In addition to the thunderous new V-10 engine residing in its engine bay, the other major change to note in BMW’s new E60 M5 was the seven-speed SMG transmission. While the rest of the world was left with this as the only transmission, North American customers were given a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with the SMG available as an optional extra. Combined with the car’s 0–100 km/h sprint time of 4.7 seconds, reported by some outlets to be as little as 4.1 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, which was said to be near 200 mph when derestricted, this made for a truly exciting sports sedan in every regard.

According to the accompanying original window sticker, this manual transmission-equipped M5 was finished in Silverstone metallic paint over a Silverstone II Merino Leather interior with Maderia Walnut wood trim. The only optional extras equipped were rear sunshades, an iPod and USB adapter and the enhanced premium sound system. Delivered new through BMW of the Hudson Valley in Poughkeepsie, New York, the car remained in upstate New York until it was purchased by the current owner in 2016 and exported to Switzerland. Today, the car remains in excellent condition throughout, showing less than 45,300 km (less than 28,148 miles) from new. In addition to the aforementioned window sticker, it is accompanied by its original owner’s manual.

Seldom seen in Europe, manual transmission-equipped E60 M5s have been highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors since they left the factory. Low-mileage examples are becoming increasingly more difficult to find, and this example checks all the right boxes in terms of desirability. It would be a prime addition to any collection of supercars or BMW M cars.

Nein, ein Land durfte sich noch über ein Sechsgang-Handschaltgetriebe freuen: für Kunden in den USA war der Handschalter Serie und das SMG-Getriebe ein Extra. Der Sprint von 0-100 km/h in 4,7 Sekunden (laut manchen US-Medien sogar nur 4,1 Sekunden) und eine abgeregelte Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 250 km/h, die ohne Begrenzer sogar nahe an 320 km/h gelegen hätte, machten aus dem M5 eine wahrhaft aufregende Sportlimousine.

Heute präsentiert sich das Auto weiterhin in fantastischem Zustand mit weniger als 45.300 km (28.148 Meilen) Laufleistung. Neben der angesprochenen Rechnung hat dieser M5 auch noch die Originalbetriebsanleitung.

Handgeschaltete E60 M5 findet man selten in Europa, und sie sind daher seit ihrer Produktion von Sammlern besonders gesucht. Exemplare wie dieses mit geringer Laufleistung sind noch schwieriger zu finden, und dieser Wagen erfüllt alle Erwartungen – eine Topergänzung für jede Sammlung von Supercars oder BMW M Modellen.
