Description

Built on its basic, but dynamically superior E30 chassis, BMW developed the M3 to compete with Mercedes-Benz in various forms of motor sports including touring car racing and rallying. Helping differentiate it from the standard E30 coupe were unique bodywork featuring boxed fender flares and a rear wing, and, most importantly, the S14 DOHC four-cylinder engine. More than the sum of its parts, competition variants of the M3 would go on to accumulate an impressive racing record that included five wins in six years at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, and four wins in five years at the Spa 24 Hours.

To qualify for homologation with international governing bodies, BMW built a road-going version of the M3 to offer to the general public. While the M3 was lauded in period for its handling and style, the passage of time has cemented its legend as one of the most sought-after performance cars of the 1980s. Just 5,300 US-specification M3 coupes were built from 1988–91, with many leading very hard lives of abuse on the street and track.

This stunning Diamond Black Metallic M3 coupe represents a rare opportunity to buy a sparingly used and well-loved example of the legendary M3. Benefiting from fastidious care and showing just 17,994 miles at the time of cataloguing, it is accompanied by a copy of its window sticker and a tool kit and stands ready to please its next caretaker.
