It has the finest competition history of any tin-top racer and will go down in the record books as the single model to have won more international races, rallies and hill climb championships than any other car. Driven by legends such as Stuck, Cecotto, Ravaglia, Soper, Pirro, and Quester to name but a few. The road version has gone down in the history books as the most flattering saloon car chassis of all time.Offered straight from the amazing stable of rock legend and Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay, this car started life as an original road-going M3. More recently Classic Heroes were commissioned to developthis fabulous example into a competition car. The emphasis during this build was on turn-key usability and for it to remain comfortablydrivable on the road as it was, naturally,essential to be quick and safe on track and occasionallydriven long distances to a circuit. The owner wanted to use the car at events all over Europe and it had to fit in with his busy lifestyle with no dependency on tow bars and trailers!ThisM3 was originally supplied to Germany in 1987. The original engineis now a 2.5-litre competition unitwith a balanced and lightened crank, rods, modified cylinder head, camshafts and converted to valve shim under the bucket. Running with a carbon airbox and programmable ECU, it now gives 260 bhpat the flywheel and also features a short shift gear-change, as well as an internal oil pressure gauge and Lambda gauge.Additionally, the car has sports suspension, competition rear shock top-mounts, negative camber front top-mounts, a front strut-brace, a rear strut-brace, poly-bushed suspension joints and a competition-ratio steering rack.AP competition front brake discs and callipers are fitted with competition rear brake pads and front brake ducting along with braided brake lines. The car sits on 17 BBS split-rims with wheel spacers and Toyo Proxes R888 R tyres.Finally, Recaro front seats with Schroth 6-point harnesses sit inside a 6-point, bolt-in Safety Devices roll cage with padding.The steering wheel is a Momo removable version with a Motorsport footrest and a competition fire extinguisher.Its looks are enhanced bycarbon mirrors, a carbon Sport Evo rear spoiler and an Evo 2 front chin spoiler and it's presented in a works livery that caneasily be removed if a more subtle track appearance is required.In January 2020, the car was entrusted toInternational Rally Engineers, Dansportof Chesterfieldto be prepared for Jay to drive in Rally Isla Mallorca in March. Whilst in Dansport's care, they fitted a front lightbox anda Monittrip meter. Running as Car Zero at the front of the Legends rally, both car and driver were very competitive as can be seen inthe video below this description. The car finished the event competitively and without incident and is presented today as it finished ~ turn-key and ready to be used again in sprints, hill climbs, stage rallies, or as a perfect track day car that can be driven to any event, yet still be competitive.
