Fun, economy, and practicality don't often mix in the automotive world, but the BMW Isetta must surely be a showcase for all three! The BMW Birth Certificate for this Isetta 300 "Motocoupe" shows that it was originally finished in two-tone Blue/Grey paintwork when produced in August 1957. Later that month, the car was delivered to Fadex Commercial Corp. located at 487 Park Avenue, New York. Quite the tony address for such a diminutive automobile, yet this was the location of Max Hoffman's official BMW importation business.
Research indicates this Isetta was fully restored in 2004 in a period-correct two-tone blue/white with a grey soft-folding sunroof. The exceptional result features a fresh interior in blue and grey and a rebuild of its peppy, period-correct 298 cc four-stroke engine. As part of the Academy of Art University Collection since 2009, this das rollende Ei or "The Rolling Egg" joined a small but influential core group of post-war European automobiles and is offered with its BMW Birth Certificate.
