Description

"The BMW E28 was the second generation of BMW 5 Series produced from 1981 to 1988 and replaced the E12. The E28 was initially produced with straight-four and straight-six petrol engines until 1983, when the 524td model became the first BMW car to be powered by a diesel engine. It was also the first 5 Series with the centre console angled towards the driver and to be available with anti-lock brakes. The first BMW M5 was produced during the E28 generation. It was powered by the M88/3 and S38 straight-six engines. The E24 6 Series coupés were also built on the E28 platform from 1982 to 1989. The E28 was replaced by the E34 5 Series in 1988.
Supplied by Cooper BMW of London in 1985 to Sir Kenneth Butt, the second baronet of Westminster, and remained in ownership of the Butt family until 2020. Finished in Cosmos Blue with matching velour trim, this car was used to travel between London and Newmarket as Sir Kenneth Butt was a keen racehorse breeder. It then remained in dry storage for 20 years, regularly started hence the low mileage and condition. The panel gaps are excellent as is the bodywork and the six-cylinder 2.8 litre engine fires up as it should. Being an SE model, this super saloon boasts centre arm rests, fog lights, electric windows all round and factory sunroof. The glass, chrome and carpets are all in excellent order with our vendor stating everything works as it should. This is a real time warp example with original radio cassette. Benefitting from having been fully recommissioned in 2022 with bills found in the history file and having been Waxoiled from new, this car welcomes any inspection, described as all original and very clean. In this condition E28’s are like ‘hens teeth’; very collectable, and with original handbooks, service history, MoT history and a current MoT test certificate it would be extremely difficult to find another in this condition.
Interested parties should note that the incorrect alternator has been fitted to this car and will need to be replaced."
