BMW stellt den Typ 503 auf der IAA 1955 als eleganten Reisewagen und komfortableres Pendant zum 507 vor. Mit einem Preis von fast 30.000 DM war der Wagen - teurer als der 507! – und somit nur für äußerst betuchte Kunden erschwinglich. Der Entwurf der Karosserie stammte wie auch beim 507 vom Industriedesigner Albrecht Graf Goertz. Die Karosserie aus Aluminium wurde bei Baur gefertigt.

Mit nur 136 Exemplaren ist das BMW 503 Coupé der ersten Serie  eines der seltensten Serien-BMW überhaupt. Dieser BMW 503 ist das 63igste Exemplar dieser Baureihe, das produziert wurden. 1956 gebaut, aber erst 1963 bekam er eine Straßenzulassung (die original Verkaufsrechnung der bayrischen Motorenwerke liegt vor, genauso der orig. Pappdeckelbrief!) Erst 2015 entschied sich die Tochter des Erstbesitzers, den BMW zu verkaufen. Der dritte Besitzer ließ den BMW 503 sehr aufwendig bei der Fa. Feierabend für ca. 200.000 Euro  restaurieren. Alle Rechnungen darüber liegen vor. Das Auto hat noch heute seinen originalen Motor und Getriebe (Matching Numbers) und seine originale Farbgebung innen und außen, wobei das Lederinterieur nie restauriert wurde.

BMW presented the 503 at the IAA 1955 as an elegant touring car and a more comfortable counterpart to the 507. With a price of almost 30,000 DM, the car was - more expensive than the 507! - and therefore only affordable for extremely well-heeled customers. As with the 507, the body was designed by industrial designer Albrecht Graf Goertz. The aluminum body was manufactured by Baur.

With only 136 examples, the BMW 503 of the first series is one of the rarest series BMWs ever. This BMW 503 is the 63rd copy of this series that was produced. This BMW 503 was built in 1956 but only registered in 1963 (the original sales invoice from the Bavarian engine works is available, as is the original cardboard cover letter!) It was not until 2015 that the daughter of the first owner decided to sell the BMW. The third owner had the BMW 503 extensively restored by the BMW spezialist Feierabend company for 200,000 euros. All invoices are available. The car still has its original engine and gearbox (matching numbers) and its original color scheme inside and out, although the leather interior has never been restored.
