Description

Looking back on BMW’s meteoric rise to global popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the 2002 was clearly the progenitor of the success that the company has enjoyed ever since. The 2002 was conceived as a pareddown two-door version of the Neue Klasse (New Class) sedan, which debuted in 1966 and was an instant hit. Engine displacement and induction specifications for the 2002 changed steadily in the ensuing years and culminated in the fuel-injected two-liter 2002 tii. The tii also featured emboldened MacPherson struts and enlarged front disc brakes. The model was highly successful, yet with approximately 39,000 built, the tii accounted for only about 10% of all of the two-liter-powered BMWs constructed on the platform, and thus they have become some of the most coveted mass-produced BMWs in the company’s history.

This bright 2002 tii presents in bold Inka (Orange) paint, paired with a subtle black interior. The aftermarket sport seats provide heightened comfort and support and the lightly patinated interior exudes a period aura. As a 1973 example, this 2002 tii was built in the final model year of the “Roundie,” so named for its understated round taillights, as well as the last year of the aesthetically pleasing chrome bumpers. Complete with accenting Coco-style mats and owner’s manual, this charming tii represents an approachable opportunity to experience one of the Bavarian company’s most widely revered models.
