This Bentley Turbo R Long Wheel Base Hooper is a handmade affair built by the very finest people in their field. It was then supplied to its first owner in China. In 1989 because of the slightly precarious situation surrounding capital-intensive Bentley’s the car was supplied via Japan. Later the car went to a collector who kept it for a considerable length of time. This is a Bentley Turbo R built by Hooper and that really stands for something. Even in the world of Bentley where small production numbers are the rule. Hooper only converted a handful of Turbo R Long Wheel Base cars to real Hoopers. How did they do it, I hear you think? Well quite simply in truth. Bentley supplied a brand new Turbo R Long Wheel Base to Hooper who then dismantled it right down to the very last screw before putting it back together as a Hooper. Although it is vulgar and simply not done to mention money when it comes to Bentleys, you can imagine the cost of a Hooper is many times the price of an “off-the-shelf” Bentley.

This example's bodywork is in very good shape. It is finished in fine black befitting its stylish and understated body lines. Whilst long-wheel-based cars occasionally can appear somewhat bulky at times, this Bentley bucks that trend. The black paintwork and tinted windows give the car a more demure look. The combination of understated powerful lines with the silver-coloured wheels lend this Bentley a modern image.

The car’s interior is of course the star of the show. Hooper adorned this Bentley with yards of tan leather as well as the obligatory bar. What other way is there to travel distances than in a vehicle with a well-stocked bar? Naturally, there is the Burr Walnut wooden dashboard, the highest quality carpets and the inimitable finish to the leather, even compared to current standards. Television is there to keep you abreast of the latest in news and entertainment and the chauffeur is not left wanting either. There are electrically adjustable seats, a perfect audio system as well as air-conditioning and four setting memory seats. The rear seating arrangement is paramount and here only the very best is good enough. The burr walnut veneer folding tables, the leather on the back seat, the bar, everything is pristine and has been finished to the highest level.

The turbo engine is perfectly suited to the Bentley and its purpose in life. A Bentley Turbo R is not meant to attack mountain roads and it's a definite no-no in an LWB vehicle. This is a continent cruiser at high-speed car. Its precise output is unknown as maternal company Rolls-Royce never divulged such information back then but would simply convey it as being enough. American writers of Motor Trend did not accept this and estimated it at 300 hp. The 6.75-litre tappet V8 is coupled to an ultra-reliable 3-speed automatic transmission. The car also has a hydraulic suspension and good brakes. It is a delightful car to travel in and with its handling and near absence of wind noise easily holds it place amongst modern limousines.

The car comes with a full car wallet with paperwork from its Chinese sojourn as well as copies of the Hooper and Bentley build sheet. In short a glorious Bentley Turbo R Long Wheel Base Hooper in brilliant shape, an absolute must for the serious Bentley collector.
