"The last Bentley to be built on a separate chassis, in 1962, saw the introduction of the Bentley S3 factory bodied, standard steel saloon and, at first glance, it would appear that the all new S3 was merely an S2 with different headlamps. The introduction of the twin headlamps was clearly the most obvious change, but the differences did not end there. Further changes included the introduction of smaller bumper overriders and the repositioning of the front indicators and side lamps into one single unit on the front wing, resulting in a more attractive appearance. The S3's interior now had individual front seats in place of the split bench seat found in the earlier S-Types; and some, like this one, had electric windows and front seat belts. Mechanically speaking the S3 was the same as the S2 with a 6,230cc, Rolls-Royce V8 engine and automatic gearbox but this model was fitted with larger carburettors, improved power steering to aid smoother movement at parking speed and a Lucas vacuum-advance distributor to aid fuel consumption, making it almost identical in mechanical specification to the S3 Continental that was being produced at the same time.
This Bentley S3 Standard Steel Saloon was supplied by J. Cockshoot Ltd. in Manchester to Mr. Brian Cornall from Bolton, Lancashire who took delivery on 7th July 1964. The S3 was supplied with electric windows, seat belts and badge bar. In 1978, it was acquired by Seblingham Ltd., a building company based in London. The third owner, Mr. Peter Baines, who was the driving force and steadying hand of the RREC for many years, used the car extensively at RREC events and to carry out his official duties on behalf of the club; he passed away in 2005. The car was then sold and went to Ireland where it was repainted and kept in good condition. It was re-imported to the UK by the seller in 2015, and on its return to the UK, it has been 'gone-through' mechanically having had the brakes fully overhauled, a full major service, a new exhaust manifold, replacement rear shock absorbers, near side front body mounting assembly, front anti roll bar bushes and four new tyres. Finished in Sable over Sand with the original tan leather interior, this S3 is supplied with a V5 registration document, copies of the factory record cards, torch, all wheel changing tools, nearly all the hand tools and a file containing some previous MoT’s test certificates and copies of invoices for the parts used during the work that has been carried out. Here is a fantastic opportunity to buy one of the best, post-war, factory-built Bentleys that can be used as a continental cruiser or as an 'everyday' motor car.
