The Bentley Continental IV Convertible ranks among the most exclusive open models the marque ever produced. It was the final version of the so-called 50,000 Series and was built in a production run of just 73 examples. That makes this not merely a rare Bentley, but a car that was exceptionally uncommon even within Bentley’s already highly selective model range.

The Continental was based on the well-known Corniche, but was given a distinctly individual character. During the 1980s and 1990s, Bentley sought to differentiate itself more clearly from Rolls-Royce once again. The Continental therefore received a sportier appearance, revised detailing, and an interior with its own instrumentation and trim. It was not a modern sports car, but it was an open grand tourer with considerably more character than its dignified lines might initially suggest.

Beneath the long hood lies the familiar 6.75-liter V8, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Everything about this drivetrain is centered on serenity and smoothness. The Bentley has no need to prove how fast it is. It accelerates with the same effortless assurance with which a fine hotel delivers your luggage to your room: without haste, without discussion, and without requiring you to concern yourself with a thing.

This example is finished in Arctic White with an interior upholstered in Soft Brown Connelly leather. That already sounds exceptionally elegant, and in reality it is every bit as sophisticated. The light-colored exterior gives the car an almost Mediterranean appearance, while the brown leather adds exactly the right amount of warmth.

This Bentley was originally transported from California to Marbella and later found its way into the hands of a satisfied Dutch owner. It is difficult to imagine a more fitting life story for a Bentley convertible. Sunshine, broad boulevards, palm trees, and long drives along the coast simply suit a car of this caliber perfectly.

The Continental was properly maintained by a specialist and remains in well-cared-for condition. That is important, as these cars were assembled by hand by Mulliner Park Ward using traditional coachbuilding methods.

The Continental IV is often described as the last true Bentley convertible. A traditionally constructed open four-seater, equipped with an enormous V8, lavishly finished leather, and a presence of a kind that is rarely created today. Just 73 were built, and this example is finished in Arctic White over Soft Brown, with a history spanning California, Marbella, and the Netherlands.
