Auto Union / DKW 1000 SP Coupe

The Auto Union 1000 Sp (Sp for Spezial and not, as is often assumed, for the word "sport") was a closed two-seat sports coupe or an open two-seat roadster.

The 1000 Sp was presented at the Internationale Automobilausstellung in 1957 and produced at Baur in Stuttgart from 1958 to 1965, a total of 5,004 closed sports coupés.

Compared to the Auto Union 1000 S, engine performance increased to 41 kW (55 hp) mainly due to higher compression (8:1) but also due to minor differences in the engine block and different carburettor system. This brought the "narrow gauge Thunderbird", as the 1000 Sp was occasionally called in the press, to a top speed that at 140 km/h slightly exceeded the less motorized 1000 S Coupé.

This example is an older restoration and is still in good condition. The front seats have fabric and seat covers with a vinyl finish. The interior is in good condition.
The engine starts smoothly at the push of the start button and produces the typical two-stroke sound. Driving this small coupé is quite an experience, and it gets a lot of admiring glances. The 1000 SP's style and rarity make it a highly regarded classic car for any event, be it a rally or a concours d'elegance. This is a real stylish collector's car.

The color combination is also very tasteful, the body is painted in Elfenbein. A very nice contrast with the black roof. The interior is in a very neat condition.
For safety reasons, the car is fitted with three-point seat belts. The roll-up mechanism is nicely concealed.

This 1000 SP Coupé, originally from Sweden, is technically very well maintained.

The body is sleek, intact, virtually scratch-free. The doors, sills, fenders, hood and trunk lid have fittings.

Die Auto Union 1000 Sp (Sp für Spezial und nicht, wie oft angenommen, für das Wort „Sport“) war ein geschlossenes zweisitziges Sportcoupé oder ein offener zweisitziger Roadster.

Der 1000 Sp wurde 1957 auf der Internationalen Automobilausstellung präsentiert und von 1958 bis 1965 bei Baur in Stuttgart produziert, insgesamt 5.004 geschlossene Sportcoupés.

Im Vergleich zur Auto Union 1000 S stieg die Motorleistung auf 41 kW (55 PS) vor allem durch die höhere Verdichtung (8:1), aber auch durch geringfügige Unterschiede im Motorblock und ein anderes Vergasersystem. Damit erreichte der „Schmalspur-Thunderbird“, wie der 1000 Sp manchmal in der Presse genannt wurde, eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit, die mit 140 km/h das weniger motorisierte 1000 S Coupé leicht übertraf.

Dieses Exemplar ist eine ältere Restaurierung und befindet sich noch in einem guten Zustand. Die Vordersitze haben Stoff- und Sitzbezüge mit Vinyl-Finish. Die Innenausstattung ist in gutem Zustand.
Der Motor startet sanft auf Knopfdruck und erzeugt den typischen Zweitakt-Sound. Dieses kleine Coupé zu fahren ist ein Erlebnis, das viele bewundernde Blicke auf sich zieht. Der Stil und die Seltenheit des 1000 SP machen ihn zu einem hoch angesehenen Oldtimer für jede Veranstaltung, sei es eine Rallye oder ein Concours d'Elegance.
