Description

"We all know the history of the Mini and the significant part it played in the development of the world's motorcar industry. The accessibility it gave to the general public as well as its enormous success it had in competition, finding a good one though, I mean a properly good one these days, can be fraught with difficulty. This is, however, one of the best.
Originally repatriated from California in 2017, a dry state, this matching-numbers Cooper S went through a total restoration by marque specialists to what can only be described as a simply stunning condition. The original shell (not a clone) was stripped of all its paint and mounted on a rotisserie jig, any corroded panels were replaced with Heritage panels, correctly fitted, treated and painted in the originally factory colours to include Group Two original wheel arches.
The engine was stripped to a bare block, bored to +40 (1310cc) then rebuilt with Omega forged pistons, Piper 261 fast-road camshaft and followers, a reground crankshaft and shells, vernier duplex chain, a Downton Engineering head and HS4 carburettors. It was all balanced and included a Downton BMC specially tuned manifold, stainless steel sports exhaust, electronic ignition and a re-cored radiator with new hoses predicting to push out 110+ bhp when run in. The gearbox and shafts were obviously all stripped and rebuilt replacing all parts as required. Suspension included adjustable camber/tracking to both front and rear, adjustable GAZ shock absorbers, high/low dry suspension and reverse-rim Cooper S wheels shod with Falken 165/70R10 performance tyres.
The front disc brakes used vented units with four-pot callipers, alloy superfin alfin rear drums, Mintex shoes and pads with new hydraulics throughout. The interior features a complete Newton Commercial retrim to include reclining seats, a column-mounted rev. counter and sports leather-bound steering wheel. Indeed, it is probably one of the finest available including, as it does, a full photographic restoration along with detailed restoration schedule costing over £35,000. It is now ready for its new owner to enjoy for years to come. Interested parties should note that the tyres fitted to this vehicle are not Yokohama units as previously advertised but are, in fact,Falken 165/70R10 performance tyres on reverse-rim Cooper S wheels acquired from Minisport.
