This Austin Healey 3000 Kk3 was imported to Norway from the United States by a Norwegian. He bought the car with the intention to fully restore it to the very best Norwegian Healey. The man himself was a professional Healey restorer and wanted to pour all of his 30-year experience into this Austin Healey. He tackled the task with gusto. The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and repaired where needed before being put back together. The interior was completely reupholstered. The work was executed to the highest standards as the results clearly show. The mechanical side was outsourced to his best friend, who just happened to a gifted engine builder with heaps of experience on Austin Healey engines. Before they started the restoration they needed to order some top-quality parts to ensure this would become the very best Norwegian Healey. We mention the cylinder head ordered from an Australian specialist, an American sourced Crane Cams XR700/XR3000 ignition, a Getrag 5-speed gearbox and a special inlet manifold for the three SU carburettors also ordered from Australia.

The restoration started in the late 80’s was finally finished on the 6th April 1998 when the Healey eventually took to the road again. This guy drove his beloved Healey up to 2016 with much pleasure until he became to old to enjoy it properly. That is when he sold it to another Norwegian chap.

The bodywork has been spray-painted in the stunning Metallic Golden Beige you see today. The good looking car bodywork consists out of part aluminium and part steel, all in great condition. This car has just that little bit more of an aggressive edge to its appearance as it is slightly longer and has rear disc brakes. The car’s aura is splendid, the chrome wire spoke wheels, the bodywork and finish are all spot-on. The stainless steel twin pipe exhaust catches your eye from the rear. A good quality PVC hood is simple to operate and shuts neatly. The chrome luggage rack enhances the car’s looks too.

The interior is beautifully appointed. The leather upholstery has gained a delightful patina over the intervening 20 years and looks even better than when new. The replaced woodwork is still in very neat condition. The new gauges and switching gear not only look splendid but are also in good working order. The wooden Nardi 3-spoke steering wheel completes the picture.

Mechanically the car is peak condition. In 2022 the engine was rebuilt and re-tuned. The smooth running engine is powerful throughout the rev range. The rebuild also included the addition of an electric fan, improved water pump, new gaskets, and a new clutch release assembly. The use of the aforementioned has left us with an Austin Healey 3000 Kk3 that is a feast to drive. The upgrades have been integrated in such a manner it would be no stretch of the imagination to picture Austin Healey having done the same if it had continued building 3000 Mk3’s. The driving experience is strengthened by the fitted limited slip differential and the fact the gearbox ratios really suit the car’s character. The engine produces 180 Ps, which unsurprisingly translate into a very fast car, not just according to Healey standards but in anyones book.

It will not be easy to find another car of this quality, especially one with the kind of upgrades fitted present in our car is virtually impossible. In short this is a lovely Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 in the ultimate rendition. This is probably the fastest and best handling Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 around without loosing any of its original allure. The work has been meticulously documented in amazing detail supported by invoices and general information regarding this model.
