Description

"The Austin Healey 3000 Mk. III was introduced in October 1963 and remained in production until the end of 1967 when production ceased. The last version was classified as the BJ8, the later model being the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healeys with more luxurious interior that included a walnut veneer dashboard, wind-up windows and a 150bhp engine. Improvements to the engine included a revised camshaft, valve springs and twin SU, 2 HD8 carburettors together with a redesigned exhaust system and servo-assisted brakes. In May 1964, the Phase II version was introduced that gave better ground clearance at the rear by a modified chassis. This handsome Austin Healey is delightfully original somewhat due, we suspect, to it residing for a large time in Santa Barbara, California. According to the British Motoring Heritage Certificate, it was built between 4th and 5th August 1965 and dispatched to North America on 8th September 1965. It was specified with wire wheels, adjustable steering column, Roadspeed tyres, a laminated windscreen and overdrive. We understand that it was first registered in Georgia then spending a large spell in California before being discovered by the owner, an airline pilot, in New Jersey who purchased the car and imported it into the UK in 2019. This example is presented in its original colour of Colorado Red with a contrasting black interior and is fitted with four chrome wire wheels with a painted wire wheel as a spare. An important feature with regard to this Austin Healey is how straight and original the coachwork appears and judging by the invoices on file, the mileage looks genuine too. We are informed that this BJ8 is a delight to drive and has proved reliable on numerous trips. The car comes with the afore mentioned invoices, a UK registration V5 and an MoT test certificate valid until November 2020. This lovely Austin Healey is ready to use straight away, what better way to blow away the cobwebs this spring and summer."
