Description

The Quattro: A car so important Audi built its entire brand around it.
• Desired Manual differential lock.
• Renovated to top condition.

In 1977, Audis chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger discovered that Volkswagen's four-wheel drive-military vehicles could outperform most other vehicles when tested on loose surfaces. He had the brilliant idea to use a four-wheel-drive system in a performance car. Up until then the only cars who had been using the systems were robust, industrial off-roaders or heavy and clunky road cars.

But the four wheel drive systems of the day were bulky and heavy, To make the Quattro work as Mr Bensinger wanted to. He and his team of Audi engineers created a low-weight, four-wheel-drive system with a central differential that would be neater and lighter than the contemporary transfer box.

The Combination of turbo charging and four-wheel-drive made the Quattro a truly groundbreaking car: A Audi with enough speed and traction to keep up with the contemporary Ferrari 308's and Porsche 928's, while also having competition success winning the 1983 and 1984 World Rally Championships with Hannu Mikkola and Stig Blomqvist.

Today Audi is synonymous with the “quattro” system and we are used to most Audis having a quattro badge, so much that to not cause misinterpretation, The original Quattro now often is referred to as the “Ur-Quattro”, Ur being a german prefix meaning “Original”.

This particular example, in the beautiful specification of a Zermatt Silver Metallic exterior paired with a cloth interior, the car features the desired manual differential lock. Delivered new in February 1983 to Audi and Volkswagen dealer Bilcity Piteå. Switching hands seldom, the car stayed in northern Sweden for most of its life. Until 2022 when MOTIKON acquired the car with the goal of restoring it to former glory.
We started a renovation process to restore the car to the same beautiful condition as its first years on the road.
After 10 months in the workshop we can now proudly say that the car is in the condition intended. A full list of executed work, as well as history, pictures and videos can be sent in case of interest.

A chance to purchase a “mint condition” Audi Quattro”. A true rally car for the road and perhaps the most iconic and important car ever created by Audi.
