Description

"The Audi Quattro is arguably the most significant car of the post-war era. The initial plan was to build just 400 for the motorsport industry, but due to strong demand the Quattro went into full production and the first lefthand drive versions were available in the UK in the spring of 1981, but the righthand drive followed in the Autumn of 1982. The first cars are easily identifiable by their twin headlamps, six inch Ronal wheels and black boot spoilers. The engine was a turbo charged version of the fuel injected 2144cc five cylinder engine which originally produced 200bhp and a massive 210lbf of torque. This phenomenal power would take the car to 60mph in 6.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 140mph. The four wheel drive transmission’s ability to provide traction in all conditions meant that the car rewrote the rule book in terms of road holding and acceleration.
This stunning Audi Quattro was registered in August 1983. The car presents very well in red with an original patterned velour interior. The vendor is a Rolls-Royce factory trained mechanic and he has maintained this Audi to the very highest standard during his 18 years of ownership. Works have included a full engine rebuild 10,000 miles ago, as well as the fitting of a new turbo and clutch. By way of a tribute to the quality of the work completed, this Quattro was voted into the Goodwood Breakfast Club Dream Grid in 2015. The vendor states that the car runs exceptionally well and that this impressive Audi has been dry stored for the last 18 years. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until August 2019 a spare set of original alloy wheels and lots of receipts for parts. Potential buyers should be aware that in May 1994 this Audi was the subject of an insurance total loss payment. The Vendor believes the car was stolen, vandalised and recovered. This Audi represents a great driving car with good investment potential.
