Description

Audi Quattro built in 1982 - The 'Primal Quattro'

Audi engineers were commissioned by the German army to work on a new all-wheel drive system for an off-road vehicle in the late 70s. As an experiment, the system was applied to an Audi 80. After a spectacular demonstration on a steep, snowy mountain pass in Austria, the management was so enthusiastic that they decided on a series production in an Audi model.

Introduced in 1980, the Audi Quattro was the first larger-scale passenger car with all-wheel drive. The Quattro is based on the Audi Coupé, which in turn is a variant of the 80 saloon. However, the permanent all-wheel drive looks more powerful with its extended wheel arches and large front and rear bumpers. All-wheel drive is provided by a 2.1-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine with 200 hp at 5,800 rpm.

The Quattro system is special because of its compact construction without an additional crank shaft and tunnel. As a result, the weight can also remain low. The Quattro is a formidable rally car, Michèle Mouton became the world's first female world rally champion in 1982 with a Quattro.

Our Audi Quattro, also called the UR-Quattro, was built in 1982 and comes from an Audi collector of special models. The car had Belgian papers but has now been inspected for a Dutch registration. The Audi is completely in original condition and has only driven 71,000 km. Mechanics, bodywork, paintwork and interior are truly in sublime condition.

Definitely a must-have for serious collectors and a very sound investment. Especially first models are very valuable and sought after. The Audi Quattro was produced from 1980 to 1985, only 11,452 were built in total.
