An entirely new Aston Martin for the 21st Century, the original Vanquish debuted at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2001 with deliveries commencing a few months later. Styled by Ian Callum, the man responsible for the DB7, the V12-engined Vanquish took over from the Vantage V8, the Newport Pagnell factory undergoing an extensive multi-million pound refurbishment to accommodate it.
For the successor, '2nd Generation' Vanquish, production shifted to Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, from whence deliveries commenced in 2012. Developed from the Project AM310 concept car, the new Vanquish utilised a lighter chassis employing more carbon fibre than the existing DBS platform, as well as having all-carbon fibre bodywork. The exterior styling had evolved from that of the DBS, with styling cues such as the elongated side strakes clearly inspired by the exclusive, limited edition One-77, while the boot lid featured an integral rear spoiler. The One-77's influence also extended to the interior, which boasted hand-stitched leather and Alcantara.

Beneath the bonnet there was an upgraded version of Aston Martin's flagship AM11 V12 engine producing 565bhp and 457lb/ft) of torque, while the transmission was an 'Touchtronic II' six-speed paddle-shift automatic. In August 2014 Aston Martin announced an improved specification for the Vanquish, which included an eight-speed 'Touchtronic III' gearbox and an AM29 V12 engine producing 568 horsepower. Top speed increased to 201mph and the 0-60mph time - aided by launch control - dipped to 3.6 seconds.
Keeping all this in check were ventilated carbon ceramic discs all round, gripped by six-piston callipers at the front and four-piston units at the rear. Suspension was by double wishbones front and rear, controlled by a three-way-adjustable adaptive damping system offering Normal, Sport, and Track modes. In November 2016, Aston Martin announced the new Vanquish S, which came with an up-rated (595bhp) engine and a new aerodynamic package.

Just as it had with the '1st Generation', the factory celebrated the end of Vanquish production in 2018 with the Vanquish S Ultimate Edition, only this time with a run of the last 175 cars featuring a choice of three exclusive 'Designer Theme' colour schemes and other, mainly cosmetic, enhancements at a cost of around €279,000.
This rare and collectible last-of-the-line Vanquish S Ultimate Edition was purchased new by the current vendor and has been stored since acquisition, showing only 55 km at the time of cataloguing.

Première Aston Martin entièrement nouvelle du 21e siècle, la Vanquish originale fit ses débuts au salon de Genève en mars 2001, les livraisons commençant quelques mois plus tard. Dessinée par Ian Callum, déjà responsable de la DB7, la Vanquish à moteur V12 succédait à la Vantage V8, l'usine de Newport Pagnell subissant une refonte complète de plusieurs millions de livres pour y être produite.
Pour son héritière, la Vanquish « 2e génération », la production fut transférée à la nouvelle usine Aston Martin de Gaydon, d'où les livraisons commencèrent en 2012. Mise au point à partir du concept car Project AM310, la nouvelle Vanquish utilisait un châssis plus léger faisant appel à davantage de fibre de carbone que la plate-forme DBS existante, ainsi qu'à une carrosserie entièrement en fibre de carbone. Le style extérieur avait été développé à partir de celui de la DBS, avec des clins d'œil comme les ouïes latérales allongées clairement inspirées de celles de la très exclusive édition limitée One-77, et le couvercle de coffre recevait un spoiler intégral. L'influence de la One-77 s'affichait également à l'intérieur qui faisait appel à du cuir cousu main et à l'Alcantara.

Sous le capot on trouvait une version remaniée du fleuron d'Aston Martin, le V12 AM11 de 565 ch et 457 lb/ft (630 Nm) de couple, tandis que la transmission était une Touchtronic II automatique à six rapports par palettes. En août 2014, Aston Martin annonçait une version améliorée de la Vanquish, qui comprenait une boîte à huit rapports Touchtronic III et le V12 AM29 de 568 ch. La vitesse maximale était de 201mph (323 km/h) et le 0 à 100 km/h – avec le « launch control » - prenait 3,6 secondes.

Pour contrôler tout ça, on trouvait des freins à disque ventilés carbone céramique aux quatre roues avec étriers six pistons à l'avant et quatre pistons à l'arrière. La suspension se faisait par double triangulation à l'avant et à l'arrière, contrôlée par un système d'amortissement adaptatif trois modes, Normal, Sport et Circuit. En novembre 2016, Aston Martin annonce la nouvelle Vanquish S, avec un moteur modifié (595 ch) et un nouveau pack aérodynamique.
Comme elle l'avait fait avec la 1e génération, l'usine célébra la fin de production de la Vanquish en 2018 avec la Vanquish S Ultimate Edition, cette fois produite à 175 exemplaires avec le choix entre trois livrée exclusives « Designer Theme » et d'autres éléments essentiellement esthétiques pour un coût d'environ 279 000 €.
Cette rare et désirable Vanquish S Ultimate Edition, dernière de la lignée, a été achetée par le vendeur et remisée depuis son acquisition, affichant seulement 55 km au moment de la rédaction de ce catalogue.
