Description
"If you wanted the fastest accelerating production car in the world in 1985, your first port of call was Newport Pagnell. This was mainly due to the tuned version of the existing 5,340cc engine, breathing through a quartet of 48mm Weber carburettors resulting in an estimated maximum output of around 375bhp. This V8 Volante is a fully functioning, expertly prepared Aston Martin. Able to live up to its plaudits back in 1985. It was hailed as ‘Britain’s First Supercar’ for its 170mph top speed. Straight-line performance was staggering with acceleration from 0–60 in 5.3 seconds, one-tenth of a second quicker than the Ferrari Daytona which was its main competitor of the time.
This delightful earlier version of the V8 Volante is one of only 157 examples built in right hand drive. As such it lacks the large and clunky rubber bumpers of the North American market vehicles, the result of which has even greater desirability. In 2018, a full service was done to the underside of the Volante, including extensive work on the suspension and brakes. A photographic record of these works is present as are MoT test certificates dating back to 2011 and two service booklets with dealer stamps dating back to 1980. This stunning example presents well in pale blue metallic that is complemented by a magnolia trimmed interior. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, this MoT test certificate exempt Aston Martin is an opportunity not to be overlooked.
