Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.7 Sportshift, 2017. It’s an Aston, not a hot hatch.

Some cars are fast. Some are quick on paper. A few simply have it. The V8 Vantage has it.

Launched in 2005, hand-built in Gaydon and drawn by Henrik Fisker, it was the car that made Aston Martin feel accessible without making it ordinary. Twelve years of production, barely any change to the shape, because it never needed one. Low, wide, a long bonnet and a short tail. It still looks right parked outside a hotel, and it still turns heads when it leaves.

Then you start it. The 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 wakes up with a bark, settles into a burble, and climbs towards 7,300 rpm with the kind of urgency turbo engines have forgotten. 426 hp, rear-wheel drive, a proper GT that never feels like a spreadsheet. No drive modes to scroll through. You press the pedal, the car answers.

This example is a Swiss-delivered coupé, first registered in January 2017, so from the final years of the line. 46,273 km is a sensible figure: enough to prove it has been enjoyed, not so much that it has been worn out.
