1964 ASTON MARTIN DB5

- An extremely rare and original Left Hand Drive example, just around
- 20% of the Aston Martin DB5’s were delivered in LHD configuration
- Newly delivered with desirable factory original air conditioning
- 899 DB5 coupes examples were built between 1963 and 1965-
- The DB5 is considered by many as “The Most Famous Car in the World’’
- Instantly recognizable by its appearance in multiple James Bond movies
- Finished in a rather attractive colour combination of Tudor Grey with Red leather interior

"Like all classic GT cars, it combines enormous speed and comfort and the more you put into your driving, the more the car returns for your entertainment. And the DB5 really is entertaining to anyone who can exploit its outstanding performance, handling and brakes. It will also carry four people (just) and a fair amount of luggage so the merits of family transport (if need be) have not entirely been sacrificed to speed and elegant looks." Motor, 6th February 1963.

Certainly one of the most iconic classic cars, the Aston Martin DB5 is a true blue-chip collectible that ticks every box for desirability.
The DB5 was introduced in July 1963 and represented a further evolution of the preceding DB4 series rather than the beginning of an entirely new model line. The major change was the adoption of a 4.0-liter version of the (previously) 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine.
Superior materials were used, such as aluminum body panels which were mounted over a skeleton of small-diameter tubing, which was patented by Touring of Milan as Superleggera construction.
The DB5 was the first and remains the most famous of all the 'James Bond' Aston Martins, having appeared in no fewer than five movies of the series, beginning with Goldfinger in 1964. After Goldfinger, the DB5 was an instant classic.

There is no doubt that the Aston Martin DB5 is a must-have in any reputable Aston Martin collection, general or otherwise.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This Aston Martin DB5 was completed at the factory on 25 March 1964.

Records show that the car was originally delivered with a Normalair air conditioning, chrome wired wheels and Dunlop Whitewall tyres and an automatic transmission.
To improve the driving experience, the automatic gearbox have been replaced by a period correct 5 speed ZF gearbox.

The Aston Martin comes with an impressive file in which can be seen that the car was newly delivered to Frank Millard Sports Cars for a price of $13.700.

Between 1966 and 1988, this DB5 has had different owners in the US. In 1988 the former owner bought the Aston Martin. This Belgium collector owned the car for 35 years.

The original invoice shows that the car needed repair en was not registered for road use. The new Belgian owner made sure that the car was overhauled and decided to paint the car from its original black to period-correct Tudor Grey.

For the past 35 years, the car has been with the same careful owner. The DB5 has always been stored in a climate-controlled and dry facility, benefitting its current condition.

The DB5 is an original left hand drive example, just around 20% of the Aston Martin DB5’s were delivered in LHD configuration.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The body of the Aston Martin is in a nice condition. The fittings of the doors, bonnet and boot are very nice.
When the car arrived with us, the paintwork could benefit from a proper polish. A fantastic car came out from under it. The paint still looks very nice and shows minimal signs of use.
This is a car in a condition which we personally prefer. It’s a very honest car which has not been dismantled many times for resoration work but a car which is as it was originally.
This is easily visible on the car but even more recognizable if we drive the car.
We are currently re-chroming the front and rear bumper as well as the front lamp surroundings because of little damages. We expect to have all parts back at the end of February.
CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior has proven it wasn’t just a showcase of period luxury, it was also very stylish and timeless.
In our opinion, the interior colour is the perfect match for the exterior colour. It gives a luxurious feel, as it was meant to be back in 1964.
The condition of the interior is as you can expect from a car of this age. It gives a used impression, but shows no signs of damage or excessive use.
Amongst the leather seats, the headlining as well as the carpets are all in period correct materials and in a beautiful condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Driving an Aston Martin DB 5 is extremely special. Everybody knows the model because of James Bond and everybody seems to love the brand.

Taking a DB5 to the streets with will feel hugely special to everyone. It is a striking, but mostly rare sight. Especially a left-hand drive one like this example.

This particular example starts without any resistance. Put the key in the ignition, turn right and the 4.0l 6-in-line engine comes to life.

The engine runs very smooth and the torque in the car is great.

All electronic features work as they should do in the car except the airconditioning which has been dismantled over the years.
