The Aston Martin DB4 was launched in 1958 and benefited not only from a newly designed chassis and stunning Touring-designed body, but also Tadek Marek’s DOHC six-cylinder engine. By 1961 the legendary powerplant could be specified with the “Special Series” performance upgrade, which bumped total output to 266 horsepower—some 30 more than the standard offering. Just 97 of these highly desirable DB4 Special Series-equipped cars were built in left-hand-drive configuration.

Chassis DB4/884/L, a series IV example, left the Newport Pagnell factory on 12 April 1962 finished in Aegean Blue over a White Gold Connolly leather interior. A beautifully specified example, it further benefitted from the Special Series engine upgrade, DB4GT-type silencers, an oil cooler, chrome wheels, a 3.77:1 rear axle with limited slip differential, and overdrive. The car was supplied by French Aston Martin importer, Garage Mirabeau, to first owner Yves Dullieux, who registered this DB4 in Rouen on 16 April.

On 28 June 1965, Dullieux sold the car back to Garage Mirabeau, and six months later it had been purchased by a gentleman in Lyon. By the end of 1966, the DB4 had changed hands again via Garage Mirabeau and was registered to Lucien Savelli in Versailles. Savelli later sold the Aston Martin to Auto Sport of Vitry in March 1968. By December of that year, Monsieur Boudebien of Morigny acquired this DB4, and three years later it was sold to Reine Louman, a hospital agent living in Revel. Louman kept the car until 1978, after which it remained with two Parisian owners until 1988.

On 29 April 1988, noted Aston Martin specialist Pierre Lamy acquired chassis DB4/884/L. Correspondence on file notes upgrades such as the fitment of a DB4GT gearbox, brakes, and Weber 45 carburettors. After nearly two decades of ownership, Lamy sold the car to the consigning owner in August 2007. The Aston Martin was exported to Kuwait, where it has since remained in dry storage. Please note that this vehicle will require recommissioning prior to road use.

Today, this Aston Martin DB4 retains its desirable matching-numbers Special Series engine, and is now finished in Dubonnet over a grey leather interior. As one of a handful of French-delivered DB4 Special Series cars, this example offers an attractive opportunity for those interested in acquiring a performance DB4 with known provenance.
