Aston Martin may be known today throughout the world for its series of GT cars which began with the DB2 in 1950, but it should not be forgotten that right from the 1930s what would become David Brown’s firm was already one of the British makes which was most admired and most successful in competition. Developed directly from the two Aston Martin ‘Speed Models’ destined for the 1936 Le Mans race and equipped with a 1974cc four-cylinder engine, the model we are presenting here has the same mechanical specification, but a longer chassis with room for two passengers in the rear. A very elegant but nonetheless sporting version, thanks to its engine producing 98bhp, from which it derives its name as the 15/98 Tourer. Just 24 cars were built, of which it is understood from the AMOC’s records that only 11 remain around the world.
C7/750/LT left the works in 1937 and was fitted with bodywork by Abbott; it was totally restored in 1997. The bodywork was completely refurbished, and the chassis sandblasted, treated and repainted, together with its wooden structure. The engine was also completely rebuilt, with new pistons, piston rings and valves; the cylinders were checked and adjusted, and the SU carburettors overhauled. A photographic record shows each stage in the restoration. Most of the parts were supplied by Ecurie Bertelli (Pre-War Aston Martins) and the work carried out by the Retro Garage Belvédère in Switzerland.
In order to improve the car’s driveability, it has been fitted with an extra fan. In addition, the wheel bearings, steering box and cylinder head have all been replaced. Awarded a prize at an AMOC meeting at Goodwood in 1981, this Aston Martin 15/98 Tourer is in excellent cosmetic condition and will be an ideal car in which to take part in the most prestigious historic rallies. It comes with its FIVA International Identity Card, issued in class A/3 on 10 March 2011, and Swiss registration papers.
This car will be sold during the auction car sale organized by Claude AGUTTES Auction, which will take place in Lyon, France, on 14th April 2018.
