Description

"Mulliner Park Ward was one of this country’s most respected coachbuilders and, therefore, unsurprising that one of England’s most elegant of manufacturers, Alvis, should form an alliance with them and go to build some of the most beautiful motorcars of their age. The skilled and meticulous craftsman employed at the time offered an attention to detail and finish that could not be contemplated on a production line and this continued with the TE21 in 1964. The obvious change from the previous TD21 was the two vertical headlamps. A simple adjustment you may think but this required a slightly higher wing line and, when you consider that the whole front end of the car is a single piece of hand-rolled aluminium, represents much work during the production process.
This delightfully handsome Alvis presents very well in the colour combination of Sand Beige with beige interior, dark brown carpets and matching Mohair hood. This TE21 is rare, being fitted with power steering and a Borg Warner automatic transmission, there were only 33 cars manufactured with automatic gearboxes and it is thought only 18 remain today. Supplied new by W.J.Skelly Ltd in Motherwell, this car spent its early years in Edinburgh being used by Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh. In 1974 the car went to New Zealand and was repatriated in 1990, resurfacing at marque specialists Red Triangle in Coventry. In 2020 it was acquired by the current registered keeper, they invested over £24,000 in some restoration work and a number of significant upgrades. The work involved includes new front and rear springs including the dampers, a top end overhaul including an unleaded fuel conversion, the automatic gearbox was overhauled, the steering box was overhauled and a Harvey Bailey handling kit fitted. Sitting proudly on chrome wire wheels, this Alvis TE21 Drophead Coupé has an extensive history folder confirming the recent work and much more, it needs to be read to be appreciated. This most elegant of motor cars represents one of the finest and, most importantly, authentic T-Series Alvis's available on the market, its quintessentially British design is wreathed in understated elegance."
