Description

Estimated Price: £6,000 - £8,000

  • In production from 1923 until 1932, the 12/50 helped established Alvis' reputation and was one of the most important cars of the time
  • The Alvis Alvista Fabric Saloon featured a fabric-covered body over a wooden frame, built on either the 12/50 or 16.95 Silver Eagle chassis
  • Whilst patents for the Alvista were being finalised, 18 Weymann bodies were built on the 12/50 chassis under licence by the Albany Carriage Co of London W7
  • This is the only survivor of those 18 and is on offer from a deceased estate, having been bequeathed to local benefactors who remember the car and its former keeper fondly
  • It was sold new to a West End jeweller and had several owners in Yorkshire, before it was bought by the lately deceased owner in 1962
  • Understood to have been driven around by its owner locally in relatively recent times, its last MOT was issued in 2012 and presumably was put into storage some time after that
  • Seemingly solid in the main it does roll easily, however the fabric bodywork will need careful treatment
  • We are indebted to Greg Wrapson, Historian of the Alvis Register, for information about the car's early life
