While the Allard K-series of sport touring cars was more luxurious than its J-series sibling, it offered equally hair-raising performance potential. Sharing a wheelbase with the J, the K2’s aluminum body was redesigned for a smoother, more Streamline Moderne appearance. Three porthole vents for the engine compartment and a pentagonal grille, both to become synonymous with Allard design, made their appearance on the K2.

The striking K2 presented here comes from the collection of an executive level member of the Allard Owners Club. Imported to the United States via R&P Motorcars of New York City on 5 May 1950, this K2, like most Allards, was delivered sans engine and gearbox but with Cadillac motor mounts installed.

After purchasing the car in the early 2000s in a disassembled state from a fellow Allard Owner’s Club member, the consignor embarked on a five-year, six-figure, concourse quality restoration. A 1950 Cadillac 331-cubic-inch V-8 engine—which when found was reportedly in new-old-stock condition and still in its original crate—was sourced for the powerplant. Barry Parker of Vintage Metalcraft in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania was commissioned to rehab the wood and aluminum body, going so far as to use oxy-acetylene welding methods to ensure a factory-correct bond. Parker then finished the car in Skyy Vodka Blue. By happenstance, the consignor discovered the color on a repurposed cardboard box for the beverage, and the shade was found to be strikingly similar to the K2’s original medium blue scheme.

Since its completion, this Allard K2 has been displayed at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and the Antique Automobile Club of America’s Hershey car show, among many other prestigious gatherings. Its restoration story was also covered in the June 2008 issue of Road & Track. Powerfully equipped with its American V-8 engine, the car presents much as it would have in 1950.
