Alfa Romeo, Italy’s oldest sporting marque, has been building cars since 1910. They produced some of the greatest machinery ever to be seen pre-war, such as the beautiful 1750 Zagato roadsters, the magnificent Monzas and the mighty P3 racing cars.
With the advent of the 1950s Alfa Romeo was forced to rationalise its production in order to survive financially. Nonetheless the firm still maintained a strong sporting tendency, and a model was always available to satisfy the whims of Alfa’s affluent young customers; such a car was the 1600 GT, styled by Bertone. The new Giulia coupes included a "normal” Sprint GT model as well as a more powerful Veloce version and a rare cabriolet, the GTC. Standard specification included all-round disc brakes and a powerful (106bhp) four cylinder, dual overhead cam engine.
