Description

1965 Alfa Romeo GTA 1600 Stradale

Type: Bertone 2 Door
Chassis #: 613736
Color: Bianco Spino (white)
Interior: Skai Nero Fumo

History: Alfa Romeo only produced 500 of the GTA 1600. They came in Stradale and Corsa specification. Largely hand built with a full aluminum body. Built by specialty coach builder Bertone. Weighing in at around 1800 lbs. and producing about 165BHP. It was a nimble, good handling car. In the competition categories it won the European Touring Car Championship three years in a row. In the USA it won the newly formed Trans Am Championship in 1966. GTAs were driven by greats such as Jochen Rindt and Ignazio Giunti. Alfa Romeo factory records show this car being produced on August 23, 1965 and delivered new to a dealer in Saint Entienne, France on September 22, 1965. Selling to first owner M. Jean Frayssinhes of Angouleme, France. Although a Stradale, he did take part in the Rallye d’Automne and Corse de Coute hill climb in 1967. The car spent it’s entire life in Angouleme, France with four different owners. Then coming to the USA in late 2018.

Condition: A full and correct restoration was completed in 2019. All of the original proper factory parts unique to the GTA. 1.6-liter alloy block engine with twin plug cylinder head and Weber DCOE 45 carburetors. Magnesium bell housing, 5-speed close-ratio transmission, rear axle with limited slip differential, Dunlop brakes and 7” Campagnolo magnesium wheels. The body was stripped to bare metal, the car was completely taken apart and every part was rebuilt, including the engine, transmission, and rear axle. The body work turned out with excellent panel fit and brilliant paint in the original color Bianco Spino (white). All brightwork and trim outside are correct. The interior is the proper lightweight GTA spec interior. The overall appearance inside and out is correct and to the highest level. The car drives as a great Alfa Romeo GTA should. All indicative of a car that has been fully restored. One of the finest Stradale available.

Of Note: Documented ownership from new. A rare and truly outstanding example. Well documented restoration. Has Alfa Romeo Archivo Storico letter. Old title book showing ownership back to 1972.
