Description

The Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior Coupe was based on a shortened Giulia (105) saloon platform. Penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, the Giulia’s clean and distinctive design is considered to be one of the most attractive small coupes of the 1960s and 70s. Alfa Romeo was one of the first manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a lightweight car for mainstream production, making it a forerunner to today’s performance Coupe’s. Powered by Alfa Romeo’s twin cam, all-aluminium, four-cylinder 1290cc engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox producing an impressive 89 bhp. This punchy power plant ensured the cars performance was better than many sports cars of the era.

The Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior ‘Step Front’ offered here at Autostorico is finished in Rosso Amaranto with Cuoio interior trim. Supplied to its first owner by E.L Bouts Motors Ltd of Wolverhampton on 22nd August 1969 Mrs Doreen Lawrence of Rednall. Purchased by Susan and Peter Thetford in July 1979 the car remained in their family ownership until 2012. Peter keep a hand-written log of all the work carried out until in 1985 the car was taken off the road. James Ashton bought the car in November 2012 as a bare metal shell with all its various parts, with the intention of rebuilding the car himself. The car required a lot of bodywork repairs with most panels being replaced, including the inner and outer sills, front and rear wings as well as the lower panels on both sides. He also replaced the wiring loom and suspension, before the car was bare metal resprayed. Passing to James Cullen in January 2016 who finally completed the car. He continued to improve the car and undertook a gearbox rebuild. The car passed to its current owner in June 2021 who upgraded the suspension and added GTA style wheels.
