Description

  • Part of The Connoisseur Collection
  • First delivered to Frankfurt, Germany on 20 June 1962
  • A former “dry-state” example; imported to Europe in 2020
  • Alfa Romeo’s first mass-market coupé, with styling by Franco Scaglione

Unveiled at the Turin Salon in 1954, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint was the first of a new model range that would also include a four-door berlina and two-seater Spider. With achingly beautiful lines by Bertone’s Franco Scaglione, the Sprint was powered by a sophisticated 1,290 cc twin-cam. Boasting an aluminium block and hemispherical head, this jewel of an engine has been seducing enthusiasts since its conception—free-revving and feisty, it offers one of the best four-cylinder soundtracks of the post-war era. In the compact, glamorous, and deftly handling Sprint, it was a winning formula.

Delivered new to Frankfurt on 20 June 1962, within six months chassis AR 350028 was on its way across the Atlantic and headed to the United States. Formerly registered in California, in 2019 the Alfa moved to Arizona before being acquired by the consigning owner in 2020 and repatriated to Europe.

Originally finished in Bianco Gardenia, the Alfa was later repainted blue but is now smartly presented in light blue. An extremely attractive car, the Sprint benefits from a history file that includes build data from Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, and a number of invoices. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/mu23.
