The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce was a milestone in the development of the affordable, modern sports car. Its sophisticated engineering and usable power from its high-revving twin-cam engine brought the thrill of Italian thoroughbred motoring to a wide audience. According to the Alfa Romeo Storico archives, this Spider Veloce was finished August 4, 1960, painted black with red upholstery, and destined for the Hoffman Motor Car Company in New York. The Giulietta’s previous owner of nearly 20 years acquired it from Jerry Lucas of Lucas Racing and engaged restorer Jed Steely to perform a thorough rebuild, creating a top show-quality example. The engine, suspension, and brakes were rebuilt, as was the period-correct five-speed gearbox. The Alfa Romeo was refinished in its original color, the interior was re-trimmed, all chrome was replated, and a new top was installed. After completion in 1994, the Spider won First Place awards three years in a row at the New Hope Auto Show in Pennsylvania. It also received the coveted Alfa Romeo Owners Club Certificato d’Oro, scoring an impressive 99.3 at the 2010 AROC National Convention in Portland, Oregon.
