Description

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita (Lightened)

History: Alfa Romeo modified about 100 of their successful Sprint Veloce Coupes for competition. They were lightened with aluminum front hood, trunk and doors. Plexi-glass on the windows. Then high-performance build and tuning on the engine. Compression, cylinder head, Weber carburetors, exhaust headers for all improved performance. The Alleggerita competition versions went on to compete and win in their category throughout Europe and the USA.

This car was raced by a well-known American living in Mexico City, Freddie Van Buren. He had numerous wins, including a class win at the 1958 Sebring 12-Hours. The car then passes through a series of owners, many of them noted Alfa Romeo collectors. It is restored and takes part in a variety of prestigious historic events, Mille Miglia, Tour Auto, Tour De Espana, Monterey Historics, California Mille, and Colorado Grand.

Condition: First restored in the mid to late 1980’s, it is then continuously maintained and looked after by the best Alfa specialists, Conrad Stevenson, Santos Italian, Epifani Restorations, Terry Hoyle. It presents extremely well with some patina. Excellent panel fit, nice paint, correctly done. The original numbered engine block.

Of Note: One of the 100 Alleggerita examples with a great period race history, a known ownership, a correct restoration, recent historic event participation and eligibility. Original numbered engine block. A large file of service records.
