Description

One of only 400 examples supplied new in right hand drive, resplendent in midnight blue with tan leather interior. Being a ‘64 model it benefits from the standard fitment of front disc brakes introduced to the standard specification from that model year. This glorious little Alfa is in fine condition having been the recent subject of a refurbishment programme.
I have known this car since the early 1990’s as it was maintained and offered for sale on a couple of occasions by the Alfa specialist, Lombarda, based in London, close to where I lived at the time. It has always been a good example of its type, retains its matching numbers and much correspondence and invoicing on file confirms the careful ownership and care it has received over the years.
A good customer of Hairpin bought the Alfa in 2009 and retained it as part of his private collection of great cars until 2016. Purchased in very good order, the car undertook several continental trips prior to an engine rebuild by the highly regarded Alfa engine expert, Bob Dove. He rebuilt the engine to Veloce spec, indeed it was one of the last engines completed by him prior to retirement.
We purchased the car from him in 2016 and although in good running order decided that the little Alfa would benefit from a refurbishment programme. The following work was undertaken:
Body strip and repair as required followed by full repaint. Underside stripped repaired as required and refinished with a final coating of Waxoyl. Wheels stripped and re stove enamelled.
All chrome work either replaced or re-plated as appropriate.
Drivetrain removed, gearbox replaced and clutch, flywheel and prop shaft replaced, engine refitted with correct Veloce tilt engine mounts. Full service of all componentry and fluids replaced.
Suspension and brakes fully rebuilt or replaced as required. Exhaust refitted with new parts as required. Harvey Bailey handling kit.
Numerous parts replaced including the fuel tank, windscreen, steering wheel and original period radio sourced.
The interior was in fine condition and only the door cards required replacement in Bridge of Weir leather, to match the seat trim. The dark blue mohair hood was in fine order having hardly been used since its replacement some years ago.
The car definitely benefited from this work in all respects – not surprisingly we sold it very quickly to a regular customer with a significant collection. He has enjoyed the car and continued to improve and maintain it well as detailed in the invoicing on file. It is now in very good order throughout and ready to be enjoyed during the summer.
Following our repurchase, this last owner drove the car to us all the way from Durham without any issues.
It was great to reacquaint myself with this lovely Alfa over this last weekend, it really does perform superbly on the road with a very positive feel and surprising turn of speed. In great condition throughout it certainly attracted much admiration and attention wherever it went.
It comes with a comprehensive history file documenting the life of the car and detailing the recent renovation, the original instruction manual and all keys.
