Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider

No matter how beautiful, in the end is every single Alfa Romeo a genuine driver's car. This classic 2600 Spider shows why. The technical condition is perfect and the bodywork pure: the ideal combination for fans who like to use the red Romeo to take it for a tour completely carefree. Because the last thing you want while enjoying the fully revised engine and gearbox to the max, is having a headache after hitting a stone with the Alfa Spider bodywork.

History
Visit concours as much as you want to, but just don’t register the Alfa Romeo 2600 as long you’re not planning to repaint its beautiful Rosso body. Cause it might be gorgeous in terms of design and technique, the lacquer doesn’t hide its respectable age of 60. However, you’re looking at a true winner when it comes to driving pleasure: the classic convertible steers, shifts, accelerates and brakes exactly how an Alfa Romeo should. Since the technique had a thorough overhaul, this machine excels in terms of reliability.

Design
With the 2600 Spider, Alfa Romeo got themselves a brand new, stunning looking flagship. Various body styles were introduced: in addition to a Berlina and this Spider from Carrozzeria Touring, Bertone designed a stylish Coupe. Anyone who has a thing for topless Italians will recognize the 2600 Spider in a blink of an eye by its wide air inlet in the bonnet and a front grille that only contains horizontal bars. These and other details make the 2+2 convertible at least as desirable and charismatic as its predecessor, the Alfa 2000.

Interior & exterior
No, the Rosso Alfa paint isn’t as immaculate as it was back in 1962. Is that a problem? Not if you’re planning to use the Alfa Romeo where it has been built for in the first place: driving. There’s more time to watch it than driving it? Some fresh paint will be recommended. Inside, the black dashboard seems quite basic initially, but nevertheless is a lot less minimalistic than other classic Spider models. Very classy however, are the super thin black steering wheel with 3 aluminum spokes, the analog instruments and the dashboard-mounted rear view mirror.

Technique
The 2,6 liter Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider has a revised 6-cylinder in-line engine with 2 valves per cylinder and 145 hp; impressive numbers, especially for a comfortable 1962 convertible. The same can be said about the top speed of 200 km/h… Disc brakes ensure the flagship slows down safe and sound. Giving the revised manual transmission a go will result in smiles bigger than the air inlet in front; exactly the reason why the real fan wants to drive a classic car more than showing it. So what are you waiting for?

Cordiali saluti, Prins Classics.
