Description

Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider (1962)

Pure perfection. This is how this excellent Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider can be described best. No less than 4000 hours of immaculate restoration work has gone into the car. As a result, this is probably the most beautiful 2600 Spider that has been for sale for a long time.

To achieve this level of quality, nothing has been left to chance. Numerous leading specialists have helped to bring this car back to its concours condition. Right now, this very special Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider is on display at Peet Classics. You are cordially invited to pay us a visit and admire this beautiful Italian convertible with your own eyes.

Strict originality has been the starting point for this full restoration. Based on historical documents provided by the Alfa Romeo archives, it has been possible to trace down the original specifications. Painted in Grigio Biacca (grey-white), the car left the factory in Portello on November 17, 1962. Soon after, it was transported to Paris. During the early 60s, Alfa Romeo worked closely with Renault, assembling the Dauphine and R4 for the French company in Milan. This explains why this 2600 Spider was delivered at the headquarters of the Régie Nationale Usines Renault, on November 20, 1962 in Billancourt.

The stylish Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider was designed and built at Carrozzeria Touring in Milan. The Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider is typical Italian car: it has a particularly elegant appearance, and is subtly decorated with beautifully shaped chrome work. Details such as the side markers on the front fenders and the curved door handles are true works of art.

The same goes for the technology of the 2600 Spider, which has been completely restored to its original specification. Under the beautifully curved bonnet, you find a classic six-cylinder in-line engine with two overhead camshafts. Fueled by three twin Solex carburettors, the 2.6-liter engine develops a healthy 145 bhp. At low revs, the muscular torque of around 150 Nm builds up with melodramatic grunts from the exhaust. That doesn’t mean that the engine is shy for high revs: on the large rev counter on the right side behind the black steering wheel, the red area only starts at 6250 rpm. Naturally, the six-cylinder is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The color scheme of the interior is a sign of excellent taste. The red color of the soft, finely grained Connolly leather creates a warm-blooded atmosphere and is combined with attractive black velvet carpet. With the black leather-covered instrument panel as a background, the polished aluminum spokes of the steering wheel, as well as the chrome-plated moldings and rings on the dashboard come into their own. A very nice detail is the backrest of the rear seat, of which the leather upholstery also serves as a cover for the folding roof. It goes without saying that the soft top of the Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider has been restored and was provided with new high-quality, three-layer Sonnenland fabric.

This is a car for the enthusiast who does not settle for less than absolute perfection. For more information about this excellent Italian classic, please contact Peet Classics.
