  • Desirable European-delivery example with signature split bonnet vents

The Alfa Romeo 2000 began production in 1958 in berlina and convertible Spider configuration. Replacing the celebrated 1900 in the Italian marque’s model line-up, the 2000 was powered by a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine. Engines planted in the Spider and Sprint versions gained greater performance attributes, with a higher compression ratio and fed by a pair of Solex carburettors. Rated at 113 horsepower, the 2000 Spider offered a top speed of 177 km/h.

The Spider’s coachwork, built by Touring of Milan, was characterised by lavish use of chrome and sporting accents. This is evident with the twin-bonnet vents, split front bumper, and four chrome-lined vents behind both front wheels. It is estimated that approximately 3,400 examples of the 2000 Spider were produced between 1958 and 1961. The combination of relatively low production numbers, stunning Touring design, and wonderfully engaging driving dynamics make this model a highly sought-after choice for Alfa Romeo enthusiasts today.

The example offered here is documented to have been completed on 14 December 1960, and delivered to its first owner in Monza, Italy on 4 August 1961, originally finished in the shade of Grigio Grafite. Today, the Alfa Romeo is finished in the Ferrari shade of Grigio Mahmoud, complemented by a beige leather interior and black soft-top. The car benefits from a restoration completed while part of The Iseli Collection, said to have cost in excess of CHF 140,000. The Spider rides on chrome Borrani wire wheels with twin-eared knock-off wheels shod in Michelin X-series radial tyres.

The 2000 Spider is accompanied by extensive photography showing the car undergoing restoration, prior Automotoclub Storico Italiano documentation, and a factory data sheet from Alfa Romeo Museo Storico that confirms the car retains its matching-numbers engine. The car also presents with a certificate from the Concours d'Élégance Tegernsee, showing that it finished 2nd in the “1956 to 1963” category in 2020.

From its elegant, yet masculine design features and finishes to a charismatic driving experience that lives up to the Alfa Romeo badge, this wonderfully restored 2000 Spider would make a brilliant acquisition for any marque enthusiast or collector of fine automobiles, offering an exquisite slice of La Dolce Vita.
