-------------------------------------------------------------

AC Cars Ltd ( auto carrier ) is one of the oldest British car manufacture still in activity, in sprite of various financial troubles over the past decades. This model was presented for the first time at the London Motor Show in October 1953, based on a sports racing platform designed by storied engineer John Tojeiro.
With its lightweight design that uses a ladder-type tubular frame, independent transverse leaf spring suspension, and two-seater alloy body, the Ace's construction was advanced for its time.
From 1956 onwards, the company introduced the option of uprated "Bristol" engine, closely related to the pre-war six cylinder BMW engine found in the Bavarian marque's esteemed sports car, the 328.
Capable of 0 to 60 mph in just over eight seconds, the engine was considered fast for its era. Selected models could also be specified with overdrive for the four-speed manual gearbox.
463 models were made of which according to the ACOC register 390 cars are known today to have survived.

BE 1179 was ordered new January 11th 1961 at Thames Ditton by Mr. R.G.P.Edwards, British citizen residing in Zimbabwe (ex-Rhodesia) and exported to his residence country march 20th 1961.
Mr.Gary Edwards was a well known gentleman driver and has been using the car until the late 80's, participating to various regional rallyes and racing twice the 9 hours of Kyalami (R.S.A).

In 1994, Mr.Edwards's Lido sold the car as a "wreck" to another British citizen - Mr Tony TYLER - Living in South Africa, cars dealer and collector himself of few racingcars such as BRM's, Connaught etc..
Mr. Tyler started the restauration on BE1197, but after 4years wasn't finished by far !
In, 1999, the present owners traveling in South Africa, discovered the car by pure coincidence at Mr Tyler's workshop and made a transaction. BE1179 was then shipped to Le HAVRE ( france ) in June 1999.
in October 1999, a restauration in depth was conducted with a major work on the body / engine / gearbox, replacing used parts judged obsolete, the gaz tank was redone in stainless steel, an O/D type J was fitted as well an electric fan Kenlowe and an oil radiator.
After nearly 3 years of restauration, the car participer to the first edition of Le MANS CLASSIC in September 2002, and all the following editions. Transalpina in 2003,2005 & 2008, The Ennstal Classic in 2007 and many other automobile events such as the AC Owner's Club and Club AC France rallyes in France and abroad.
After nearly 12 years of extensives utilisation, it was judged necessary to proceed to another overhaul of the car in view to correct some mistakes on the body work.
The task was carried out by the well know classic car body and paintwork specialist Mitchell Motors - Chicklade - Wiltshire - U.K. with the objectives to check and correct the chassis warpage, operation often neglected but important in view to obtain a perfect realignment of the tubes of the chassis consequently giving again an incomparable driving pleasure, repaint the bodkin the present color and reinstall the engine after been revised.
The brakes were adjusted and new calipers fitted.
BE1179 currently running with extremely rare and period correct Solex 32 PBI 6 carburettors which are required to run in period competition events.
Engine was totally rebuilt with new camshaft, crankshaft, Costwoth pistons and comrades supplied by both IN racing and well know Bristol engines specialist Tony Byford.
Gearbox was opened and revised accordingly.
Starter replaced by a more modern and lighter unit Wasp ( original starter kept )
Work achieved in Mai 2013.
Since the car has participent various automobile events in Europe for the great pleasure of his enthusiastic owner who is offering the car to the market with a certain regret but in view to pursue another project, but whatever an AC ACECA BRISTOL still in his garage !
BE 1179 could be considered as "historic" having in fact known only 2 owners. driving with it since came out of the plant in February 1961, 60 years pretty rare for such a model !
