Description
1958 AC Ace Roadster
Registration no. 190 GPC
Chassis no. AE438
Engine no. CLB N
First registered to AC Cars Limited in July 1958, this AC-engined Ace had had only three private owners before the current vendor acquired it in 1968 (original logbook available). '190 GPC' has been cherished and well maintained over the last 54 years and was treated to a restoration and re-spray circa 1990 by AC at Brooklands (invoices on file). The body is original and the new engine, numbered 'CLB N', is the last to leave the factory. Repainted Ice Blue (from original grey), the AC has been stored in a heated garage and used sparingly (the recorded mileage of 10,100 is believed genuine) and still presents very well.
The interior has been re-trimmed throughout in black leather and Wilton carpeting installed, including in the boot. The tachometer and odometer were re-calibrated by Speedograph Richfield, but the mileage was not altered. A new wiring loom and 'tripod' headlights (with halogen bulb conversion) were fitted.
The engine was rebuilt with new bearings on a standard crankshaft and stock 9:1 compression pistons, and has been upgraded with electronic ignition, a Kenlowe electric fan, and an oil cooler with thermostat. A stainless steel fuel tank was fitted and a new radiator fitted (in 2019). The water pump has been rebuilt and upgraded, and the entire exhaust system is stainless steel. Boasting overdrive on third and fourth gears, the original gearbox was modified to take a Jaguar MkVII remote gear selector.
Refurbishment of the suspension and drive train included improved shock absorber top mounts; new bearings; Metalastic bushes throughout; and reconditioned prop and half shafts with new roller spiders. The hydraulics were upgraded with new Kunifer and Aeroquip brake and clutch lines; new slave and master cylinders; and reconditioned brake callipers with new pistons and seals.
A list of its specification is available and the history file also contains a quantity of old tax discs and MoTs; numerous bills from AC Cars dating from the 1960s/1970s; an original sales brochure; a V5C document; and the aforementioned logbook and restoration invoices.
Stored in a heated garage when not in use, the Ace was re-commissioned last year (2021) and is presented in beautiful condition having been cherished by the vendor for over 50 years.
