Description

Although mini bikes had been around for years by the time Honda when introduced the SL70 in 1971, this was the first of the type to resemble a real motorcycle with a proper tube frame and 4-speed gearbox. As a result, the SL70 became incredibly popular and numerous variations were built before the model was redesignated the XL75 in 1973. Available in just three colours: Summer Yellow, Aquarius Blue and Light Ruby Red, with black or white stripes on the tank. The SL70 was fitted with a 72cc OHC single-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox and the speedo was optional. With amazing off-road abilities, the SL70 Honda was the ideal way to teach young kids motorcycling skills and many dirt riders started off on one of these amazing machines. Given the hard lives most Honda mini bikes suffered through, it's hardly surprising that few survive today and good examples have already become highly sought after by collectors.

This example is completely restored in 2019 and is still in new condition, as the pictures will show. It's a first-year SL70 from 1971 and finished in Summer Yellow. Even the original Honda SL70 brochure is still with the mini bike, as well as a workshop manual and maintenance guide. This amazing little motorcycle is a fantastic addition to any collection, and a real pleasure to drive.
