The Harley-Davidson Inc motorcycle manufacturing company started production in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Today Harley-Davidson is still known as one of the worlds largest motorcycle companies. The brand especially stands out for its loyal following. Our bike was first registered in the UK in 1928. The last owner had been minded to re-build this motorcycle 10 years ago. The first years were taken up by collecting as many original parts as possible. As mentioned the frame originated in the UK. The block was eventually found in the Netherlands being, of course, an American original. The JD1200 with its 1,212cc,13Kw/18Ps V-twin block provided the inspiration for this custom build. The big plan was to recreate a replica JD 1200 2-camber racer with identical stainless steel race exhaust and rear mudguard. The reason to go for a replica is easy to understand as less than 100 were made of the original. The frame was first given a blue powder coat and topped in Police Blue. When it arrived the frame was totally pared back as was the engine before being put back together. There really is not such thing as a standard Harley Davidson and this bike is no different sporting some of its well-known customisations. Except for the replica 2 camber racer exhaust and “Crocker Style” rear light, this Harley-Davidson is built up using original parts or when no longer available the use of top quality OEM suppliers. They carried out a full engine rebuild, wheels were given new bearings, spokes and hubs, the dynamo and gearbox were fully overhauled, new parts and shocks helped restore the front fork. The restoration was completed in 2017 and the bike was given Dutch plates. An interesting aside is the fact this was the last Harley to be supplied without front brakes. It comes as no surprise this example is as good or perhaps even better than new. A photo album details the restoration. As beautiful the Harley may be to look at, it doesn’t stop there as this bike runs perfectly. Everything works as it should and it’s a pure feast to hit the roads with this nearly 100-year-old motorcycle. It surely will be the envy of all who behold her at every Harley-Davidson event, whilst enjoying the trip there. Gallery Aaldering is Europe’s leading Classic Cars specialist since 1975!
