Ducati dominated the World Superbike Championship in the 1990s with eight Riders' Championships in total, four secured by factory rider Carl Fogarty: first with the iconic 916 and then the 996. Capitalising on Fogarty's World Superbike Championship successes, Ducati introduced the limited edition 916 SPS 'Fogarty Replica' in 1998 at the behest of UK importer Moto Cinelli. Only 202 were made. The SPS continued after the range was upgraded to 996 specification for 1999. Encouraged by the success of the limited edition Fogarty Replica, Ducati produced 150 of the 996 SPS Factory Replica, but this time for sale in Europe, Japan and Australia. All these SPS (Sport Production Special) models were lighter and more powerful than the regular street versions, and necessarily more expensive. Today they are among the most coveted and collectible of Ducati motorcycles.
Number '147' of the 150 produced, this example has recorded a mere 4,180 kilometres from new. The machine comes with cancelled Japanese registration documents and Belgian import document E705 (EU taxes paid).
