Mercedes-Benz has announced details of its new CL 65 AMG, a high-performance sports coupé powered by the renowned AMG 6.0-litre V12 bi-turbo, the engine already adopted for the S 65 AMG saloon. Delivering 604bhp and 1000Nm of torque, the performance figures of the new coupé are predictably outstanding, with 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds – but even more remarkable is the fact that the CL 65 AMG can reach double this speed, 124mph, in just 13.3 seconds.
As you would expect from Mercedes, driving sophistication has not been sacrificed in a bid for outright performance. The high-torque engine is characteristically smooth, with the glorious purr of the AMG V12. Along with the seductive AMG styling and distinctive AMG interior, standard equipment in the new CL 65 AMG includes the PRE SAFE occupant protection system and 20-inch AMG forged wheels. The new car’s AMG sports suspension is based on Active Body Control, with the AMG high-performance brake system using dual-frame floating-caliper disc brakes.
An even more exclusive equipment version is offered by the limited-edition ‘40th Anniversary’ model, making its appearance to mark AMG's 40 years in operation. This special CL 65 AMG is the first Mercedes-Benz production vehicle to be finished in AMG ‘Alubeam’. With this unique finish, the colour, says Mercedes, ‘has the appearance of liquid metal’, while ingenious light reflections make it appear even more vibrant. Inside, the CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary is dynamically accented by two-tone, diamond-quilted nappa leather upholstery, and by carbon trim.
