Soprano Trunk

Paris-based Pinel & Pinel creates luxury, custom-made leather goods, from lighter cases and cardholders, to sandals and dogs’ accessories. Within the company’s product range is a series of very special trunks – equipped for far more than transporting mere luggage.

There is, for example, Visio Trunk – a portable home cinema. Or the Picnic Trunk, for ‘nomadic gastronomy’; or for those of a more businesslike nature, the travelling office i-Trunk. There’s a trunk with a folding bicycle… and then there’s this, which we have chosen to look at more closely – with an entire music lounge in, yes, a trunk.

Soprano Trunk Soprano Trunk

The Soprano Trunk is handmade in wood, and covered in leather (unless the buyer specifies something different. Anything is possible). The work of French designer Fred Pinel, the Soprano Trunk comes in a choice of 51 colours, and the hardware is nickel-plated brass. The 24 drawers can accommodate 480 CDs of your choosing, but the heart of this creation is the Bang & Olufsen Beosound 3000 Hi-Fi system, with two Beolab 3 speakers each of 250 Watts.

This music lounge can be used anywhere there is a power source: all other cables are hidden inside the Soprano Trunk. It is, says Pinel & Pinel, “a case for your most precious secrets, for your most essentials pleasures, for your most private luxuries”. Next time you’re in Paris, the Pinel & Pinel premises in Montmartre – a former biscuit factory – are worth a visit.
