RM’s annual Florida sale is held in association with the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, and we’d put special emphasis on ‘elegance’, with entries of the quality of this Pegaso Z-102 Series II Cabriolet by Saoutchik (above), estimated at USD 1,250,000 - 1,750,000.

The Spanish supercars (that once vied for the title ‘fastest car in the world’) are rare. This example is the sole Series II Saoutchik cabriolet, and surely a shoo-in for any of the world’s top concours events.

Other cars suitable for the best show lawns include the most fantastic 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Berlinetta by Carrozzeria Touring (USD 1,500,000 - 1,750,000, below), the 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Berlinetta Tuboscocca by Vignale for USD 1,000,000 - 1,400,000, and the USD 1,500,000 - 1,900,000, 1948 Tucker 48 formerly owned by George ‘Star Wars’ Lucas.

Amelia Island sales are traditionally good hunting grounds for American pre-War cars, so Rob Myers and the RM team aim to please with a varied selection of Duesenbergs, Cords and Packards. Joining them from Europe is an impressive, very ‘driveable’ 1925 Bentley 3-Litre Tourer by Gurney Nutting. It’s estimated at USD 225,000 - 325,000.

Enthusiasts for more up-to-date four-seat convertibles will appreciate the 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet, seen below. Estimated at USD 175,000 - 225,000, the navy blue car – frighteningly expensive when new – is in fine fettle, having benefited from a restoration by marque expert Bob Hatch & Sons.

On the fast road car front, buyers can choose from several Ferraris such as this black 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT (USD 250,000 - $300,000, above left), or place a bid on the Sterling Silver, fuel-injected 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible (above right). These fast-appreciating cars are enjoying a 50th birthday this year, and this one not only has a fuel-injected 327ci V8, it’s also a manual and comes with a posi-traction axle and its original hard-top. Estimate: USD 105,000 - 135,000.

RM Auctions’ 2013 Amelia Island sale will be held on 9 March at the usual Ritz-Carlton (4750 Amelia Island Parkway, Amelia Island, FL 32034) venue. The auction commences at 11:00 EST.
