Riva Meetings

The beautiful Ligurian coast of Italy was the setting for the first of this year’s annual ‘Riva Meetings’, with both traditional wooden motorboats and modern yachts taking part in a four-day programme from May 31 to June 3. For the first time, the meeting combined two traditionally separate gatherings – the Riva Trophy Italy and the Wooden Boats Meeting – in a single event at Santa Margherita Ligure. Hence visitors could enjoy the full history of the exclusive ship-builder, from its origins more than 160 years ago right up to the present day.

Despite bad weather on the first day, participants derived huge enjoyment from the many activities, including a cruise which took owners to see the new Riva Shipyard in La Spezia. There were also the usual cocktail parties and dinners, along with classic reliability trials and an ‘elegance’ competition. For this latter event, owners decorated their yachts with the yellow and black colours of La Grande Dame Veuve Clicquot, Riva’s partner – along with Audi, Hamilton, Crédit Suisse and Starwood’s Luxury Collection.

The meeting, organised in collaboration with Nautica Casarola, one of Riva’s historic dealers, came to a close with a gala dinner and awards presentation at the famous La Cervara restaurant in Portofino.

The next few dates for Riva owners to note are the Riva Trophy Monaco-St Tropez from July 5-7, and the Riva Owners’ Gala Dinner, at the Hotel Cala di Volpe in Porto Cervo on August 8.
