The Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Car Series is coming to the UK for the first time in 2005. On May 1-2 (the Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend), Donington will host a round of the prestigious European series for pre-War sports cars.
"There has been tremendous enthusiasm among owners of pre-War sports cars to see an extended series of races this year, and in particular to see a round at a major UK circuit," says Duncan Wiltshire of Motor Racing Legends, who launched the European series last year.
"In 2004, competitors enjoyed a superb season of racing at the Nurburgring, Assen and Spa, with grids of the highest calibre. Entries ranged from 8c Alfa Romeos and BMW 328s, through Le Mans Astons and Bentleys, to Riley, MG, Amilcar, Alvis, Morgans plus such illustrious marques as Invicta, Frazer Nash, Lagonda and Maserati. A highlight of the year was surely the stirring sight of two Stutzes racing together on a European circuit for the first time since 1930."
The Donington round is the 2005 season-opener for the pre-War series, and forms part of the Top Hat Donington Classic. This features such races as the Top Hat pre-’66 saloons and the Gentleman Drivers series.
Following Donington, the Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Car Series promises an exciting schedule of races at major meetings or festivals during the year:
Each round consists of two, two-driver, 45-minute races. The series is for ‘proper’ historic sports cars, running in road trim with wings and lights, and potential entrants are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible as grid sizes are limited.
