Historic and modern Porsche race cars will gather at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on 14-16 October, along with many of the drivers who piloted them to victory, for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV – the first time a ‘Rennsport’ has been staged on the west coast.
“The Rennsport name has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers over the past 10 years by providing a one-of-a-kind gathering to Porsche fans,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, which is sponsoring the event.
The weekend – which is held once every three years, and previously only on the east coast – will include a range of activities celebrating Porsche history, including on-track racing and an open paddock for visitors. Models such as the nimble 550 Spyder of the mid-50s, through the mighty 917 and 956/962 of the 70s and 80s, to the highly successful RS Spyder of the last decade are expected, while a special tribute will be paid to the Porsche 911 in its numerous racing guises.
On the modern race-car front, the Pirelli Drivers Cup race will feature Porsche 996 and 997 GT3 Cup Cars from 2000 through to 2011.
Tickets for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV are now on sale. See www.MazdaRaceway.com. Complementing the Rennsport Reunion will be the Porsche Race Car Classic, an invitation-only concours d’elegance at nearby Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, on Sunday 16 October, displaying Porsche racers from 1950-1965.
