Polo on Snow

An international highlight of the winter social season is surely the 24th Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow – held from 24-27 January 2008 at (where else?) St. Moritz.

Part of the Polo World Tour, and one of the 30-odd top tournaments held each year, it is without doubt the world's most prestigious polo tournament on snow. The playing field is the frozen surface of the lake at St. Moritz and a staggering 25,000 spectators are expected to witness the sport taking place on a layer of ice some 50cm thick.

The four team sponsors – Cartier, Maybach, Brioni and Bank Julius Bär – bring some of the world’s top polo players to St. Moritz for this event and the atmosphere is understandably unique. The area between the polo field and the VIP marquee is peopled with well-known faces and beautiful women, together with thousands of locals and holidaymakers enjoying the very special scenes out on the frozen lake.
